Govt must ensure everybody enjoys dividend of democracy, Most Reverend Ayo Olawuyi …Says Nigerians should make sacrifices for the nation
Most Reverend Dr Isaac Ayobami Olawuyi, the Archbishop of Lagos, Methodist Church Nigeria, has stated that the government must ensure that Nigerians of all classes enjoy dividend of democracy.
Archbishop Olawuyi added that the period of Christmas must serve as a period when humanity uplift one another and make sacrifices for the nation.
The learned man of God took the stance while addressing journalists on the significance of Christmas at the headquarters of the church in Lagos Island on Thursday, December 25, 2025.
He said, “Jesus Christ has the power to gather all the materials of the world, but he denied himself, he emptied himself, and he succumbed even obediently to the will of his father for the sake of humanity, and that sacrifice, that utmost sacrifice, we should make sacrifices, we should make sacrifices for the nation, we should make sacrifices for the sake of our communities and those who are rich or those who have opportunity to serve or those in authority should learn the sacrifice in Christ.
“He came even though a master, he became a servant to please the father and to please all. And he did this faithfully because of the love, let us exhibit that love among ourselves in this country, let those who are rich or well to do help the poor, this is the time to lift ourselves. This is the time to lift our communities, bring the prices of things down, let people feel that this country belongs to all of us. And let everybody enjoy the dividend of democracy.
“I want to appreciate so far, what is happening in the country, despite all the fears here and there, thank God, God is in control and he is in charge”, he said.
Archbishop Olawuyi urged the governnent not to rest on their oars until things are normalized. “But the government should not relent, they should buckle up because the danger is too much, we must do our very best to ensure that this country is safe at all time.”
Speaking specifically on the significance of Christmas, the soft spoken Archbishop said, “Jesus Christ was born and we are commemorating it today, December 25, and it happens once every year throughout the world. Jesus Christ is the only son of God, and it’s part of God’s plan for the salvation of man.
“Christmas is an act of God, because God planned it and executed it, because of his love, for God so love the world that he gave his only begotten son, so that anyone, everyone or whoever that would believe in him will not perish but have everlasting life.
“It is the love God has for humanity that brought Jesus Christ into the world that we may accept him as a free offer from God himself, the father of all, for everyone who desired to be saved from sin through Jesus Christ, the saviour of the world,” he stated.
Speaking on the lessons of Christmas and how the leadership of the nation can leverage on the lessons to enhance national development, he said, “The lessons we should learn from Christmas especially Nigeria, is simplicity in the life of our lord, Jesus Christ, humility, even the humility of his birth, he was born in a manger, even people treated him as nobody, the king of kings and the lord of Lords, he came into this sinful world, but humbled himself even unto the point of death.”
