A Chieftain of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) Hon Chief Modestus Umenzekwe, (Onwa Achina) has sent out warm birthday felicitations to the amiable, hard working and indefatigable Representative of the good people of Gboko/Tarka Federal Constituency at the Federal House of Representatives, Hon Regina Akume and called her ‘mother to the nation’.
Hon Akume, the wife of the former Governor of Benue State and now Secretary to the Federal Government, His Excellency, George Akume, is a towering political figure, not just in Benue State, but the entire country in general.
According to Umenzekwe, Hon. Akume’s undented political stature earned her the meritorious position as the chairman, House Committee on the National Agency for Food, Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC).
Describing Honourable Akume, Hon Umenzekwe said glowingly, “I wish Her Excellency happy birthday celebration, she has been a very good supporter to her husband in the assignment of nation building. Aside that she is a member of the House of Representatives, who knows when to cut her onions and makes sure the 35% women affirmative position is adequately maintained and carried out.
“Her passion for the downtrodden is second to none, she is a very silent achiever and a good mother to the public. She is a seasoned administrator, so I wish her well and to continue the good work of nation building,” Umenzekwe disclosed.
As Chairman of the House of Representatives Committee on the National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC), Hon Akume has taken several actions, particularly regarding NAFDAC’s policies and financial transparency.
Akume has consistently balanced the need for public health protection (especially for the youth) with the economic implications of regulatory actions, seeking solutions that do not exacerbate unemployment or stifle businesses.
