Covenant with Lagosians: Dr Adetokunbo Pearse assures on transparency, accountability …Says era of hand-picked governor gone
Dr. Adetokunbo Pearse, the Lagos State Governorship Candidate of the People’s Democratic Party, PDP, for the 2027 elections, has disclosed that the era of hand-picked governor in Lagos State would be over once he is elexted governor of the state.
Dr Pearse made the revelation while speaking to journalists in Lagos recently. He also unveiled what he called a covenant with the people of Lagos State, saying “Era of Handpicked Governors Will End.”
Dr. Pearse said that his government will be built on three Pillars of Progressive Democracy, including Economic and Financial Transparency, Human Capacity Development and Public Accountability of Stewardship.
According to him, development in Lagos has been concentrated in Lagos Island, while other divisions have been neglected. “People who are impressed with the development of Lagos State usually point to the road and bridge infrastructure, the presence of Multi-National Corporations, the busy social life, and the vibrant economy of the Lagos Island Division. But these indicators of development are non-existent in most of Ikeja division, Badagry division, Epe division or Ikorodu division,” he stated.
He vowed to “Institute policies which will drive growth into those neglected areas of the state like never before.”
On Heritage and Commitment to IBILE, Dr. Pearse traced his roots across Lagos’ 5 IBILE divisions.
He said: “On the mother side, I hail from Epe Division in the East Senatorial District. On the father side I come from Lagos Island Division in the Central Senatorial District. And my progenitors were some of the earliest Christian Pastors operating in the West Senatorial District of Badagry Division during the 1830s. An uncle, Michael Olu Pearse actually served as a Badagry Chief during the reign of the late Oba Akran.
“My heritage dictates for me, a commitment to the development of the whole of Lagos, and not to a limited area which is the stomping ground of tourists and visitors to the State,” he added.
Dr. Pearse also unveiled a 7-point covenant with Lagosians if elected. He said that the resources of the State shall be used for the development of the State and there will be Zero tolerance for embezzlement of public funds.
Pearse further disclosed that the needs of the citizens shall be of paramount importance. Service before self; that development projects shall be spread across all of the five divisions of the State: Ikorodu, Badagry, Ikeja, Lagos Island and Epe. No area will be left behind; and that community organizations shall be co-opted as partners of the State Government.
Others include that government officials shall be held accountable for performance at all times; that quarterly town hall meetings shall be held for government to give account of its stewardship and to provide citizens with a platform for identifying priority needs and requirements, and that he shall govern with honesty and compassion, adding that integrity matters.
Dr. Pearse said he will be back in touch “when the campaign proper begins” and called on Lagosians to remember him in prayers. “May the grace of God be with you and all who wish Lagos well, and who continue to contribute to its development,” he concluded.
