Nigeria should adopt tech at early age for nation building – USOSA President, Magaji

The President General, Unity Schools Old Students Association (USOSA), Michael Magaji has called for early adoption of technology at an early stage of education to boost national development.

He said adoption of technology in institutions of learning would serve as a springboard for national growth and nation building.

He spoke during the presentation of 20 units of Wowbii interractive boards to the association on Saturday in Lagos.
Speaking during the donation ceremony, Mogaji said, Wowbii is one company that has solution for digital, modern creativity, innovative learning technology, especially for the modern students who are digital natives, and who are familiar with digital technology.

According to him, “Today, USOSA is a beneficiary of 20 smart boards given by Wowbii free of charge to be installed in 20 unity schools across the geopolitical regions of Nigeria to serve the underprivileged kids, those who ordinarily would not have access to this kind of tools.

“We thank Wowbii for this great gesture, we believe this would make lasting and transformative impact on our educational sector particularly in our public education where this tool is greatly required.”

Magaji who disclosed that schools to benefit from the tools are those whose alumni and managements have given commitment to digital education spoke on other activities of USOSA.

He said, “We have done several things aside what we have done today, USOSA was created for transformation and to give back to the unity schools; and through the resources and time of our old members we are giving donations, we are giving infrastructure from classrooms to hostels, to digital lab across the schools nationwide as a way of giving back, transform and contribute not just to education but to nation-building.

“Don’t forget that the unity schools were primarily created for nation building, post independence when Nigerians were brought together in their formative years, to live and learn together, to understand what it means to be citizens of a new country. So what you are seeing today is a return on that investment that was made about 60 years ago when the whole thing started.

“So you find the unity schools all over the country, and irrespective of where we are from, we don’t have any mental and cultural barriers, about our giving back, I am giving back to my school not because I am from there but that is the school that nurtured me. So we are urging Nigerians to give back. We are also teaching Nigerians to volunteer and give back to their schools to participate in the development of their schools. It is not the government responsibility alone, we the citizens also have the ability to help and today many of us have risen in size and status, so we can be of help,” Magaji affirmed.

Earlier, the Founder and Group Chief Executive Officer, Wowbii, Gbolahan Ilayomi, said, Unity Colleges represent a critical component of Nigeria’s educational heritage and national integration framework.

He said the donation of 20 units of Interractive Boards to USOSA became imperative to strengthen digital learning infrastructure across Federal Colleges in Nigeria.

He added that, “The donation is part of Wowbii’s commitment to advancing technology-driven education and supporting institutions that continue to uphold academic excellence in line with the Federal Government’s drive toward modernization of classrooms, digital learning adoption, and improved institutional capacity across public schools.
