Lagos State Police Command arrests 68 suspects, recover vehicles, firearms in one month

Lagos State Police Command has recorded giant strides in its efforts in ensuring that the state is save and peaceful for investment to thrive.

The Commissioner of Police, Lagos State, CP Olohundare Jimoh made the revelation at a press briefing at the Command Headquarters, Ikeja, on August 11, 2025, on recent achievements in the fight against cultism, armed robbery within the state and recovery of exotic firearms, ammunition and other successes recorded in the Command in the past month.

He said during the period under review, a total of 68 suspects were arrested for various offences, adding, “During this period, we arrested a total of sixty-eight (68) suspects involved in various crimes, including murder, armed robbery, robbery, cultism, unlawful possession of firearms and ammunition, advance fee fraud, kidnapping, illicit drug offences, and conduct likely to cause a breach of the peace.

“From these cases, we recovered a total of four (4) vehicles: two (2) minibus, an unregistered Toyota Camry, a Toyota RAV 4, and a Mercedes-Benz E350; seventeen (17) firearms, comprising English pistols, Beretta Pistol, AK-49, and multiple locally made pistols; a total of ninety-nine rounds of ammunition of various calibers; nineteen phones, including a TECNO Spark 20; six (6) laptops and tablets; five (5) identification documents, including naval IDs and a WAEC card; two (2) plate numbers; and several other items such as a bulletproof vest, axes, hammers, concrete blocks, broken bottles, and POS machines.

Speaking further the police commissioner also disclosed recovery of scam-related documentation revealing fraudulent transaction worth over ₦500 million, stating that all recovered items were properly secured and documented.

He commended his men for standing up to the occasion during the Lagos State Local Government Election, which he said was peaceful due mainly to the presence of his men all over Lagos State before, during and after the election.

There were other success stories, including arrest of armed robbery suspects impersonating security personnel,

arrest of syndicate over 500million Visa scam,

arrest of car thieves, arrest of notorious ‘One Chance’ Kingpin / recovery of vehicle and weapons,

arrest of abduction suspect and recovery of exhibits, arrest of suspect for conspiracy and recovery of a Toyota Camry car.

There was also the recovery of Lexus Car suspected to be stolen,

“A lexus jeep high breed 2021 valued at above N75 million which was about to be sold for N60 Million without particulars- Suspected to have been snatched or stolen from another country other than Nigeria- No single import papers intercepted for more than two months, caught in the act and now with the suspect have no proof of ownership,” Olohundare disclosed.

Earlier he said the press briefing was to showcase achievements recorded by the Lagos State Police Command in crime prevention, control and management throughout Lagos State. “My assumption on board as the Commissioner of Police, Lagos State new crime prevention strategies and tactics were put in place and implemented to turn around the operations modalities of the Command for prompt prevention and detection of crimes and criminality throughout Lagos State, to ensure adequate safety of lives and properties of all Lagosians and ensure that the huge investments of the Federal Government of Nigeria, the Lagos State Government and that of local and foreign investors are safe and secure for commercial business and activities to thrive unhindered across the state.”

He said he appreciated the Inspector-General of Police, IGP Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun, for providing the Lagos State Police Command with state of the art crime combating equipment, technology and other logistics leading to the success stories. “It is also pertinent to loudly underscore the continuous logistics and day to day operational supports provided for the Lagos State Police Command by the Governor of Lagos State, Mr. Babajide Sanwo-Olu that have made the job of securing Lagos State much more-easier and have further reduce our response time to distress call to around five minutes.”

He said that all the suspects would be charged to court at the conclusion of investigation. He also implored Lagosians not to hesitate to contact the police if they see any suspicious activities around them.”

He disclosed that with CP Olohundare Moshood Jimoh as commissioner of police in Lagos State, crime and criminality would be brought to a minimum as he, in conjunction with his team, would continue to ensure optimal management and deployment of human and operational resources across the entire length and breadth of the State
