Olalekan assures of more vibrant, service oriented organisation, as LASTMA turns 25

The General Manager, Lagos State Transport Management Authority (LASTMA) Mr. Bakari-Oki Olalekan has assured the motoring public and other road users in Lagos State that his agency would be more vibrant, resourceful and service-oriented in the coming years.

Olalekan gave the assurance in his welcome address at a Press Briefing to herald the silver jubilee celebration of the organisation. The briefing took place at LASTMA headquarters at Oshodi, on Wednesday, July 9, 2025.

He said, “I want to assure everybody and by extension the motoring public, the road users in Lagos, LASTMA is not going to relent, they should expect more vibrant, resourceful and service oriented organisation.

Olalekan said that the Lagos State Transport Management Authority has been in existence for the past 25 years and by next week Tuesday, 15th July, 2025, the agency would celebrate her 25th Anniversary.

Enumerating what the agency has in stock for the motoring public, Olalekan said that LASTMA would project traffic management by ensuring that the organisation embraces technology. “Moving forward, part of what we are going to project at the celebration of the 25th anniversary at Eko Hotel and Suites, is to look into the future, to project traffic management in the next two years by ensuring that we fully embrace technology, data collation, this will help the organisation and the state government, to make informed decisions for Lagosians, in terms of facilities, amenities and all sorts.”

He made it public that the agency has grown in limbs and bounds as it has grown from a traffic management agency to to an incident management. “Over the years the agency has evolved from a traffic management agency to incident management. On daily basis we face our responsibility which is ensuring orderliness, adequate compliance to traffic rules and regulations, in order to promote development and growth of the economy of Lagos State, and by extension promote security and safety.”

He added that Lagos being a 24 hours economy, LASTMA is doing all it could to realise that objective. “You all will agree with me that Lagos happens to be a mobile, 24 hour economy. We as an organization saddled with that responsibility for over 25 years, we have been able to put in our best, we have been able to live above board.”

Earlier the General Manager requested all to stand up to recognize and observe a minute silence for LASTMA men and women who sacrificed their lives for the betterment and development of Lagos State.
