IWD 2025: Africa Leadership Foundation champions dialogue on reparative justice for African women
The Africa Leadership Foundation (ALF) has called on government, stakeholders, partners, donors to focus on putting an end to gender inequality in Africa as it convenes a critical dialogue on reparative justice for women in commemoration of International Women’s Day (IWD) 2025.
The call was made in a statement issued ahead of the March 8th celebration and an upcoming virtual dialogue.
In the release, the Executive Director of the Africa Leadership Foundation, Dr. Olumide Ajayi noted; “International Women’s Day serves as a poignant reminder of the strides made towards gender equality, yet it also underscores the lingering historical and systemic injustices that disproportionately impact women and girls in Africa.
“Our upcoming dialogue on reparative justice for women is a pivotal step towards rectifying these injustices, empowering women and girls to demand their rights, and addressing the entrenched systemic barriers that hinder their progress in Africa,” Dr. Ajayi emphasised.
According to the statement, the critical conversation themed “Promoting Reparative Justice for Women and Girls in Africa” aligned with the African Union’s theme of the Year 2025: “Justice for Africans and People of African Descent through Reparations“ and the UN Women theme, “For ALL Women and Girls: Rights, Equality and Empowerment.”
The virtual dialogue, scheduled to hold on Wednesday, March 26th by 12:00 PM West Africa Time on Zoom, will bring together stakeholders, thought leaders, and advocates to foster meaningful discussions and inspire collective action towards a more just and equitable future for women and girls across African nations.
Notably, the year 2025 is a pivotal moment as it marks the 30th anniversary of the Beijing Declaration and Platform for Action. This document is the most progressive and widely endorsed blueprint for women’s and girls’ rights worldwide that transformed the women’s rights agenda in terms of legal protection, access to services, youth engagement, and change in social norms, stereotypes and ideas stuck in the past.
