LASU welcomes new VC in grand style, rolls out drums

The Lagos State University (LASU) community was on Monday, 21st September 2026, agog with excitement and celebration as the 10th Substantive Vice-Chancellor of the University, Professor Ayodeji Olawunmi BADEJO, FCASSON, FAPROCON, MNAE, officially assumed office.

The assumption of office marked a significant milestone in the history of the University, signalling the commencement of a new chapter in its leadership and reinforcing LASU’s commitment to continuity, excellence and sustainable development.

The University community, comprising staff, students, friends of the University and other stakeholders, joined in welcoming the new administration, with expressions of goodwill and optimism for the journey ahead.

The formal transition followed the completion of the five-year tenure of the 9th Substantive Vice-Chancellor, Distinguished Professor Ibiyemi Ibilola OLATUNJI-BELLO, mni, NPOM, whose administration recorded various initiatives and milestones in the development of the University.

The transition further underscored LASU’s tradition of institutional continuity, with the leadership of the University moving seamlessly from one administration to another.

Speaking on the occasion, the Vice-Chancellor, Professor Ayodeji Olawunmi BADEJO, expressed appreciation to the University’s Management, staff, students and other stakeholders for the confidence reposed in her. She stated that her administration would build on the gains of previous administrations while pursuing initiatives to further advance the University’s academic, research, innovation and infrastructural development.

She called for the support and cooperation of members of the University community, stressing the importance of collective responsibility in achieving the vision and aspirations of the institution.

Professor BADEJO also reaffirmed her commitment to an open-door policy, excellence, inclusivity, innovation, accountability and good governance, with a determination to further strengthen LASU’s position as a leading institution of higher learning.

The colourful reception that accompanied the assumption of office reflected the enthusiasm of the University community, as members of staff and students gathered at various locations within the University premises to extend congratulatory messages and goodwill to the new Vice-Chancellor.
