LASU to graduate 20,604 students across two academic sessions; as Aerospace Engr bags overall best with 4.97 CGPA
A total of 20,604 students have been cleared for graduation from the Lagos State University LASU for the 2024/2025 and 2025/2026 academic sessions.
The Vice Chancellor of the Best State University in Nigeria and university of first choice, Prof Ibiyemi Ibilola Olatunj-Bello, made the disclosures at a press conference to announce the beginning of the combined 29th and 30th convocation ceremonies of the university.
While speaking at the conference which took place at the Babatunde Raji Fashola Senate Building of the institution on Wednesday, August 12, 2026, Prof Olatunj-Bello also revealed that a student of Aerospace Engineering Department, Adebanjo Samuel Oluolamide, emerged the overall best graduating student for the 2025/2026 academic session with a CGPA of 4.97.
In the same vein, Ayilara Lawal Olawale of the Project Management Department with CGPA of 4.96 emerged best graduating student for the 2024/2025 academic session.Prof Olatunj-Bello who would also be honoured during the convocation by the university as a Distinguished Professor for her contributions to learning, went further to breakdown the number of graduating students for 2024/2025 Academic Session.
She said, “Under the Diploma Programmes, a total of 947 Diploma students graduated in this session. The breakdown is as follows: 65 Distinction, 521 Upper credit, 354 lower credit and 7 passes.
“First Degree Programmes
Of the 7,621 students who graduated from the First Degree programmes, 262 came out with First Class honours, 106 with Unclassified (MBBS/BDS) Degrees. 3155 graduated with Second Class Upper Division, 3439 with Second Class Lower Division, 622 with Third Class and 37 with a pass.
She said, “I am delighted to announce that AYILARA LAWAL OLAWALE, of the Project Management Department with a CGPA of 4.96 (First Class Honours) is our overall best graduating student for the 2024/2025 academic session.
She also broke down the number of graduating students for 2025/2026 Academic Session
She stated, “Under the Diploma Programmes, a total of 44 Diploma students graduated in this session. The breakdown is as follow: 33 Upper credit and 11 lower credits
(B) First Degrees for 2025/2026 Academic session
“Of the 8,653 students who graduated from the First Degree programmes, 232 came out with First Class honours, 3,545 graduated with Second Class Upper Division, 4157 with Second Class Lower Division, 678 with Third Class and 31 with a pass.
“I am also pleased to announce that ADEBANJO SAMUEL OLUOLAMIDE of the Aerospace Engineering Department with a CGPA of 4.97 (First Class Honours) is our overall best graduating student for the 2025/2026 academic session,” she stated.
Giving summary of the 2024/2025 and 2025/2026 academic sessions, the erudite Professor announced “Out of the 3,383 Graduating Postgraduate students, we have 618 for Postgraduate Diplomas, 1,508 Academic Masters degrees, 900 Professional Masters degrees, 238 Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D) degrees and 119 Professional doctoral degrees,” she state.
She said the university would graduate 20,604 students for the 2024/2025 and 2025/2026 academic sessions. “Overall, the University will graduate a total of 20,604 students across the two academic sessions.
She also announced that the university would honour Nigerians who have contributed their quota in the growth and development, not only in the university, but also across other sectors in Nigeria and beyond. “The Senate has also approved the conferment of Honorary Doctorate Degrees on distinguished personalities whose exceptional contributions to national development, scholarship, public service and humanity have earned them this prestigious recognition of HONORIS CAUSA.
“They are: Mr. Akin Kekere-Ekun OFR, – Doctor of Business Honoris Causa (Entrepreneurship Finance Management); Mrs. Harriet-Ann Omobola (Bola) Adesola -Doctor of Business Honoris Causa (Corporate Finance and Governance) and Alhaji Aliko Dangote, GCON, Doctor of Business Honoris Causa (Entrepreneurship Industrial & Human Capital Development)
“Similarly, the University will elevate two deserving scholars, as earlier highlighted, Professor Rafiu Olaoluwa Okuneye and my humble self, Professor Ibiyemi Olatunji-Bello, mni, NPOM to the rank of Distinguished Professor in recognition of their outstanding contributions to teaching, research, mentorship and the advancement of knowledge,” she stated.
